It’s been a while since I’ve shown you around my hood hasn’t it? The Annual Bamboo Contract has been awarded and there is scaffolding on virtually every building.
I jest. I have no idea if there is a contract awarded or not but around this time of year it seems like there must have been, and whoever has won it must be laughing all the way to the bank. Every single building on every laneway and street is getting spruced up.
It never ceases to amaze me given the construction that goes on in this city, that bamboo is still used for scaffolding – but it’s pretty cool isn’t it? I wonder how long before sights like this will disappear?
The bamboo is reused, but how many times I don’t know. It’s moved along the street from one laneway to another on a push cart or over shoulders. It must weigh a tonne. Some of those bamboo poles are three stories high!
You can see the difference a day makes with the autumnal weather – one day is bright blue skies and muggy air and the next it’s raining …with muggy air.
What’s going on in your hood?
