{In My Kitchen} June 2014 – Plus Ate Six

There’s no fancy gadgets or weird and wonderful condiments in my kitchen this month but I thought I’d show you some of what I walked home with today from the Avocado Lady. Monday mornings is usually about restocking after the weekend and I tend to decide when I get there what I like the look of and then work dinner around what I’ve brought home.

In my kitchen this month…….

The baskets of strawberries that have been around for the last month are slowly disappearing and there were none to be had this morning. Local lychees and cherries are plentiful though and there was a box of beautiful Thai mangoes just flown in.

I don’t bother messing with fruit this gorgeous – we’ll just work our way through it after dinner.

In my kitchen……

…..I bought a few handfuls of edamame beans – always good to have in the fridge for snacking on or podding into salads.

In my kitchen….

…. I picked up feta and haloumi for salads. We’re not big cheese eaters but there’s always a packet or two to of these in the fridge. Not quite sure why I picked up the quark or what I’m going to do with it yet because I’ve never used it before. I was after sour cream but there was none in the fridge so I’m hoping this will be a good substitute. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In my kitchen….

….it looks like the white asparagus is nearly finished and I have a mild obsession with it so I’ll buy a bunch a couple of times a week if I can. I have a similar obsession with dill and if I could, I’d throw it into just about everything I cooked. Now I think about it, same deal with the fennel which is probably why Rich passed comment on how much fennel and dill I put into salads……

In my kitchen…

….is not from The Avocado Lady but my attempt at home made vanilla essence and I’m after some advice. I’ve had about 6 vanilla pods broken up and sitting in a jar of vodka now for around three months. It’s sitting on the top shelf of a cupboard and occasionally I’ll go and give it a shake and have a smell and a taste but it still tastes too much like vodka – which wouldn’t be a bad thing if I was going to drink it but it’s supposed to be for baking! What have I done wrong? Too much vodka? Not enough pods? I feel like I want to add a tablespoon of brown sugar to it. Should I?

In My Kitchen is hosted by Celia over at Fig, Lime and Cordial and there are sometimes over 50 kitchens around the world you can have a snoop in if you’re as nosey as me.

What’s been going on in your kitchen this month?
